Bright and early on Friday morning, we headed to the hospital for Coby's first ever surgery. He's had an ongoing strep infection over the past few months that was not going away despite
many rounds of antibiotic treatments so the doc said his tonsils should come out. Out they came all right and Coby is holding the proof! Before the surgery, the doctor asked if we'd like to keep the tonsils. Coby and Darren immediately said no, and I said,
Excuse me, y
es we do to want to keep them!! Darren thinks I'm disgusting, but I just think he has no sense of adventure. I am a detail person and I wanted to see what they look like. Is that wierd? I think not! (By the way, the doc said both his tonsils and adenoids were very large and were partially obstructing Coby's airway...I'm glad they're outta there!)

Coby sitting with Sam (his Webkinz cat). Sam went to surgery with Coby.

Coby was so nervous before the surgery so I pulled out my phone so he could play Pole Position to take his mind off of it. It cheered him up immediately. (excuse the poor photos as I took my old camera since it is smaller, but causes a glare on all pic and the color is awful...oh well) I am not posting the post-op hospital pic because it just breaks my heart to even look at! When Coby was wheeled into recovery he was rolled up into a little ball on that big hospital bed. They let me pick him up and hold him the whole time he was in recovery and for the first 30 minutes he cried and cried (and Coby is not a complainer about pain so I knew it was hurting him terribly) and kept telling me "it hurts so badly". I've never seen him in such pain...it was awful. Thankfully the nurse finally got him some pain meds and he felt relief and fell asleep. I was happy that the pain meds took effect and knocked him out before they removed his IV.

Darren and I gave Coby got some legos when we got in the car to come home.

Then, he got legos from Nina/Poppy and GramPat. I think getting all those legos
almost made the surgery worth it to Coby!

He immediately got to work on them...he was such a trooper! I hope the new legos keep him entertained because he can't go outside and play for an entire week and then the following week he is
still not supposed to do much. How do you slow down an active 6 year old for two weeks?

Oh, in case you were wondering...Sam came out of surgery well too! She had her foot operated on! I'm happy to report three days later that both patients are doing well!

How scary for you to see him so hurt. Glad things went well, and he'll feel better.
I don't think it's strange of you to want to keep the tonsils (as long as it's not forever or anything!) I wanted to keep my tailbone when they took it out, but it came out in too many pieces and I didn't get to see it.
My heart hurt a little for you guys when I read about how painful it was. I'm glad Coby is doing much better. You're a good mom and I'm sure Coby felt safe and secure in your arms.
On a lighter note... that's cute that Sam had a little "procedure" as well. Hope he's up and around in no time!! :)
